A website is not finished on launch day. Software needs updates, domains and certificates expire, and backups only help if someone is taking them. Most of the “rescue” jobs we take on in Kuching come from sites where nobody was doing this work.
What good website maintenance includes

Reliable hosting sized for your traffic, ideally on Malaysia-region servers so pages load fast for local visitors, with monitoring so problems are noticed before your customers notice them.
Backups you can restore
Regular, automatic backups stored away from the main server, and tested. A backup that has never been restored is a hope, not a plan.
Security updates
Content management systems, plugins and server software all receive security fixes. Sites that skip them are the ones that get hacked, redirected to spam or blacklisted by Google.
Renewals
Domain name, SSL certificate and business email renewals, tracked so nothing quietly expires. An expired domain can take your website and email offline on the same day.
Small changes
New staff photos, updated prices, a new event page. A maintenance plan usually includes a set amount of content updates, so you are not raising a new quote for every change.
Search basics
Keeping the sitemap current, fixing broken links and watching Google Search Console for errors helps the site stay visible.
Warning signs your site is not being looked after
- You do not know who holds the login for your domain or hosting.
- The browser shows “Not secure” next to your address.
- The copyright year in the footer is several years old.
- Your vendor takes weeks to reply, or has disappeared.
Make sure you own your website
Whoever maintains your site, the domain should be registered in your company’s name, and you should have admin access and copies of your backups. We have reclaimed domains and restored data for clients whose previous vendor still held the keys, and it is far easier to prevent than to fix.
